♻ Unsure whether to reupholster your old furniture or send it to the dump?
Well don't trash it... donate it at the very least!
If you have a sentimental piece like a family heirloom or one with significant design or quality, it's a good idea to explore the expenses involved in restoring it. This could include costs for refurbishing, framing repairs, or cushion replacements. It's advisable to seek estimates from two or three different vendors and assess the quality of their services before making a decision. Request to see examples of their previous work and obtain references from past clients to learn about their satisfaction and the durability of the restored items. Be cautious of vendors offering substantially lower prices than others, as this could indicate subpar workmanship!
Prices for fabric can vary greatly, starting at $30 per yard for basic upholstery fabrics and going up to $300 per yard for luxurious, intricately woven or handmade textiles. Fabric selection is not an area where you should try to save money. Opt for high-quality fabrics to prevent the weave from deteriorating over time. Thinner or delicate fabrics might need knit-backing to enhance their durability and make handling easier. Make sure to consult with your upholsterer!
