To conjure an aura of calm exoticism against the grit of the city, we took inspiration from Henri Rousseau's 1910 oil painting 'The Dream' hanging just a short walk away in Manhattan's iconic Museum of Modern Art. References to the canvas's punctuated use color, jungle textures, and reclining nudes are captured throughout in the selection of seductive surfacing, silhouettes, textiles and artwork.

PROJECT DETAILS
This 47th-story aerie just steps from Central Park was pared down to its studs and reimagined as a crisp, cosmopolitan pied-à-terre for out of town owners. With custom architectural features and built-ins to optimize every corner, and a blend of pedigreed, contemporary and MHLI designed furniture, the space comfortably accommodates its owners and their guests with amenities rivaling a deluxe hotel.
The dining room's banquette and table are MHLI designs — the base of latter evoking a grove of forest trees, a motif repeated in the photograph hanging above. In the guest bedroom, custom furnishings include a tweed headboard with inset reading lamps which also houses an HVAC unit and top-loading storage cabinets, cerused oak bed and nightstands, and a muscular, bronze-mirrored barn door which eases access to the closet in tight quarters and visually expands the space.
Newly installed white oak flooring and custom baseboards match the living room's window seat and low cabinets which house A/V and HVAC components. Vintage chairs and a forest green velvet-upholstered bench flanked by integrated terrazzo end tables maximize seating in the narrow space. A bronze television surround elegantly disguises cables and mount. Repeating circular motifs in the carpet and cocktail tables soften the rectilinearity of the narrow space, injecting subtle rhythm and interest.
